A garden is something beautiful - if only it didn't do so much work. Lawn care in particular is time-consuming. But you don't have to sow lawn at all. There are also some alternatives.
Good alternatives to lawn are, for example, surfaces such as gravel and pavement. Of course, the covering must match the garden and the ambience. But the size of the garden is also important. A 300 square meter garden, mostly made of gravel or paving, obviously doesn't look nice. Gravel and paving are therefore more suitable for small gardens, hardly used garden areas or edge strips that should be as easy to care for as possible. You can still create green accents in your gravel bed with grasses, reeds or boxwood balls.Tip:
If you put a weed fleece under the coverings, it won't even get through and the work will be reduced again.
❖ Mulch:
Bark mulch instead of lawn - Even bark mulch is a great alternative to lawn because it is not only easy to care for, but also nice to look at. It looks especially nice when you work with mulch of different colors. If you then also create patterns, the former lawn becomes a real eye-catcher in the garden.It is important with this lawn replacement that you lay a weed fleece before applying the mulch. So there is no chance of making your way through the mulch.
❖ Ground cover:
The evergreen feather cushion (Leptinella squalida) with its 5 cm height is a good lawn substitute and spreads with runners by itself - ground cover plants are perfect as a lawn replacement because they also grow where lawn usually only grows poorly. They also branch well and usually exude a wonderful fragrance in the garden. As a lawn replacement, however, the ground cover must be hard-wearing and hardy and must not lose its leaves in winter. Nevertheless, it should be said that you should only select ground cover plants if you want to replace a surface made of decorative lawn with them. If you have a dog and children who like to romp in the garden, ground cover plants are rather unsuitable. However, if you only want to step on the lawn replacement from time to time, it is perfect for your garden.

As far as care is concerned, you don't have to invest a lot of time here. The lawnmower can actually stay in the garden shed. You only need to get this out if the ground cover has become too high. Then raise the blades of the lawnmower and shorten the plants a little. Otherwise, you only need to water the ground cover regularly. Just like lawn too. At the beginning, shortly after planting, you still have to pluck some weeds. However, once the ground cover has spread, weeds have no chance.
