Cola herb helps against indigestion

Bitters are really available in a wide variety of variants. A very special variant, which is interesting for everyone who likes to make liqueurs themselves, is cola herb liqueur. This plant, also known as the boar lozenge, has been used for centuries as an herb against indigestion and biliary problems. After being forgotten for a long time, it is now back in fashion and is now available again in many garden centers. The shoots and the young leaves of the boar rose smell and taste of cola, which is why the plant is also known as the cola herb. And the great thing: you can use it to make great cola herb syrup, cola herb lemonade and a so-called bitter stomach.

How to make cola herb liqueur yourself

First of all: depending on how much sugar you add, the cola herb liqueur tastes more like bitter or mild liqueur. If you want to use it as a home remedy for stomach problems, be careful with the sugar - if you want to enjoy it as a liqueur, it can be a little more sugar.

➤ Ingredients:

If you want to make a tasty herbal liqueur with cola herb, you only need a few things and some time. For cola herb liqueur you need:

  • Depending on your taste, a handful of shoot tips and young leaves of rue
  • other herbs such as mugwort, dandelion, etc. as desired
  • a bottle of grain, vodka or similar with at least 38 percent alcohol
  • approx. 250 g sugar (brown sugar, rock candy or honey)

➤ Preparation:

Fill a third of the herb or herbs in a wide-necked container. Then add the sugar and fill up with alcohol. Close the jar and place it in a dark place at room temperature. Now the mixture is stored for about three to four weeks and only shaken from time to time so that the sugar can distribute itself well.

When the three to four weeks are over, strain the liqueur and make a taste test. Then pour the liqueur into clean bottles.

A little hint:

You can drink the liqueur right now, but it will taste even better if you let it mature in the bottle for a while.
