Peanut butter is part of an American breakfast

Especially in the USA, peanut butter is an integral part of an “American breakfast”, which often consists of toast, pancakes and eggs. But peanut butter also often plays a major role in many cakes and sandwiches. No wonder, because peanut butter tastes really great. Even the King of Rock'n'Roll, Elvis Presley, loved sandwiches with banana and peanut butter.

The spread is also becoming more popular in Germany. This is mainly because it not only tastes good on bread, but can also be used in a variety of ways in the kitchen. For example, also refine Asian or Caribbean dishes. The only problem: peanut butter is very expensive compared to other spreads. You can also save money, because you can easily make peanut butter yourself with just a few ingredients.

You need:

  • 300 g peeled and roasted peanuts
  • 2 - 3 tablespoons of peanut or sunflower oil
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • Sweeteners (e.g. sugar, honey or agave syrup)
  • possibly spices such as cinnamon, chilli, cocoa or caramel syrup


➥ Step 1:

Put the roasted peanuts with the salt in a food processor and chop them slowly. Add the oil and let the machine work until the nuts or cream are smooth and spreadable.

2 Step 2:

The peanut butter itself is now ready. You can also refine them with some ingredients. For example, with a little sugar or agave syrup and a pinch of cinnamon. But cocoa also fits perfectly. If you want to give the cream a little pep, you can also add chilli to the mixture. Just experiment a little.

3 Step 3:

When the cream is ready, pour it into a screw-top jar or into another tight-fitting container. It then stays in the fridge for about two weeks.
