Steaming a pumpkin is the gentlest way to prepare the vegetables. We explain here exactly how you should proceed.

A pumpkin can be prepared in a variety of ways. Steaming is the healthiest method of preparation because a large part of the nutrients and a large part of the vitamins remain in the vegetables. This is how a pumpkin is steamed

➤ Step 1:

First of all, you need to prepare the pumpkin for steaming. Simply remove the stem and divide the pumpkin in the middle. Then you can hollow it out with a knife or spoon and remove the cores and fibers.


You can keep the seeds and roast them later. The result is a tasty and healthy snack.

➤ Step 2:

If it is a Hokkaido pumpkin, you can leave the bowl on. For other types of pumpkin, you still have to cut them off. Then cut the vegetables into cubes.

Now heat some butter or oil in a large saucepan. Then briefly sauté the pumpkin on medium heat, deglaze with a little broth and then cook for 10 to 15 minutes with the lid closed.

You don't need a lot of broth to extinguish, because the pumpkin itself contains a lot of water. So you don't have to worry about caking.

To top it off, you can now refine the steamed pumpkin in different ways. For flavoring, e.g. Tomatoes, onions, coriander, garlic, dill or leek. For a nutty aroma, just sprinkle a few roasted pumpkin seeds on top just before eating.
