They were used as early as the Stone Age and are still used today: boulders. We show you here how you can use it to design your garden.Boulders are great eye-catchers
If you want to upgrade your garden with particularly attractive natural stones, the best thing to do is to use a boulder. These natural stones are not only real eye-catchers in the garden, they usually also tell a story. After all, boulders are stones that were transported through glaciers during the ice ages and placed in their current position. They are there until they are found and put on the market. Hence the name “boulders”.
We would now like to give you a few tips on how to choose the right erratic block for your garden and how to later stage and maintain it perfectly.
Further processing of the boulder
Before a boulder comes into our garden, it is usually subjected to a special treatment in specialist shops. Not only to make its splendor perfect, but also to make true works of art. Each boulder is unique in itself and is therefore unique!
When processing the boulders, spring basins, spring stones, obelisks, columns and steles are primarily created. However, special shapes such as e.g. Balls, animals, flowers, etc. carved out of stone. Boulders can also be used to create beautiful water features. For example, they can be used partly as water dispensers or as pools. Several erratic blocks draped on top of each other also create a beautiful garden waterfall.
Choosing the right erratic block
It is best to always give preference to solitary stones that are no longer only available from garden beds and mountain ranges in Germany, but can also come from Asia, South America, etc. Because of this, you can find quite exotic boulders in a wide variety of colors and patterns (marbling). For example, moon and Amazon stones are very popular, but also ocean, tube, marble and granite stones.
But remember: Depending on the age, a single boulder easily reaches a weight of over 100 kg up to 800 kg and more! The price for a boulder is based on this. It usually depends on the weight and the types. So if you don't want to spend too much money on a boulder, it's best to get advice from the dealer.
Tips for designing with boulders
➤ Tip 1 - erect erratic block as a “sculpture”:
You can place a boulder somewhere in your garden - it will always magically attract everyone's attention. However, you can give it even more attention if you place it specifically in the garden. For example, you could set up a particularly large boulder on fine gravel. It then appears particularly elegant and graceful.
➤ Tip 2 - Integrate boulders into the flower / herb bed:
You can also stage a boulder in a different way. For example, you can integrate it in a flower bed or in your herb garden. Simply place in the bed and then transplant all around with grasses, flowers, etc., so that it looks as if the stone has always been there.
➤ Tip 3 - upgrade the garden pond with boulders:
If you have a relatively flat garden pond, you can also upgrade it with a boulder. Simply place it somewhere in the pond, add a few smaller stones and maybe pond plants around it and you have already created a real eye-catcher.
Tips for the care of boulders
➤ Tip 1:
Especially if the boulders come into contact with water frequently, green algae quickly settle on them. It is best to scrub these off with a simple brush twice a year.
➤ Tip 2:
You should also make sure that you wash animal droppings (for example from birds) off your boulder as quickly as possible. If necessary, you can also clean your boulder with a special natural stone cleaner, for example if there is moss formation and the like.
