Every gardener wants his plants to be well looked after on vacation. That is exactly why we give you tips on how to properly prepare your garden for your vacation.Preparation is particularly important in summer
Proper preparation is particularly important when there are many hot days, i.e. longer dry periods or heat storms. Even if none of your neighbors or friends want to or cannot take care of the gardening during your absence or you do not want to engage a professional gardening service, your plants do not have to suffer from it. There are a few small tips on how to survive the holiday season despite the lack of care on your part.
5 tips on how plants survive the holiday season well
➤ Tip 1 - the right preparation:
Shortly before the vacation begins, you should thoroughly clean your garden again. Now you should among other things:
- weed weed
- mow the lawn (about 3 days before)
- loosen the soil in the beds (about 1 day before)
- clean the garden pond
- Administer fertilizer
- water all plants well (immediately before the trip)
Additional tip: Bark mulch stores moisture for a long time, which is why you should apply it around the plants shortly before your vacation trip. Water vigorously again in the evening / morning before the holiday trip!
➤ Tip 2 - irrigation:
Probably the biggest problem is irrigation of the plants on particularly warm days. For this purpose, gardening retailers now offer a wide variety of irrigation aids, which you can either control or time using a timer or a computer, which means that your garden is then watered automatically every day. Of course, including the lawns on hot summer days.
➤ Tip 3 - Protect container plants:
Furthermore, you should put all potted plants in a well-protected place in the garden, so that neither the plants nor the pots in e.g. strong storms (thunderstorms, hail, etc.) are damaged. Covered outdoor parking spaces are well suited for this. You also have to make sure that you also connect the tub plants to the automatic watering system.
➤ Tip 4 - Harvest fruits and vegetables earlier:
Of course, you can also harvest many types of fruit and vegetables in a slightly immature state and then ripen them easily in the house (e.g. tomatoes, apples, pears). Perishable fruits and vegetables such as Berry fruits, cucumbers, etc. should be given away during longer vacation periods. Otherwise annoying fruit flies would spread around the house.
➤ Tip 5 - tie up plants:
Many shrubs, climbing plants and also fast or abundantly growing flower sticks should also be sufficiently tied to extra sticks or trellis so that they do not kink during the holiday season.
