The issue of weed control plays an important role for gardeners every year. There are ways to prevent weeds from growing. Here are 3 tips.

Every hobby gardener knows the problem of weed growth, which can be found in flower beds, on the lawn and in joints between spring and autumn. Those who have to fight against weeds that are already overgrown are struggling. Weeding is a tedious task with joint scrapers and tap root cutters. However, there are a number of good weed tips that can help quickly.

Above all, however, it is the preventive measures that may seem complex at first, but have a long-term effect and prevent weeding in the long term. Our tips now show you how you can prevent weeds from growing and avoid having to weed as much in the future.

Tips for avoiding weed growth

Tip 1 - mulching:

The distribution of mulch on beds provides the plants used with additional nutrients and is used for weed control. Mulch is usually available at the hardware store from chopped tree bark, which is why it is called bark mulch. Since there is no clear definition of bark mulch, some manufacturers also mix stones or plastic material under the mulch. Therefore, when buying, you should pay attention to the RAL seal of the Gütegemeinschaft Substrate für Pflanzen to ensure that you get good quality.

The best seasons for sprinkling mulch on flower beds are spring and autumn. In the spring, a thin layer on the newly planted flower beds is usually sufficient. In the fall, the layer can still be thicker to protect the soil over the winter. Do not forget to remove the weeds before mulching, otherwise you will soon find the first tender weed plants between the mulches.

" Tip:

You can also easily produce mulch yourself: For example, simply cut the shrub, chop it small and sprinkle the chopped crop over the beds. See also shredder in the test

Tip 2 - lay weed fleece:

Garden fleece is now available in specialist shops for a wide variety of uses. So e.g. also as weed films or weed fleece. These are plastic foils or fabric foils that are spread all over the place and are used for weed control. Laying out a weed fleece is recommended especially when laying out new beds. Weed fleece can also be laid out under patios, carports and garden paths. In this way, weeds do not grow in the joints between paving stones or gravel and you save the weed removal with joint scrapers, gas burners or knives.

How to lay weed fleece correctly:

When laying a weed fleece, you have to make sure that the individual fleece overlaps. Then cut the fleece in an X-shape where you want to use plants. When you are finished, you should cover the weed fleece with gravel or bark mulch for aesthetic reasons.

Tip 3 - plant ground cover:

The principle is simple: They plant the beds so densely that the weeds find no suitable growing conditions and can no longer thrive. Which plants help in weed control depends on the location and use of the bed.

" Tip:

In pure decorative beds, carpet-forming plants are particularly beautiful, which you place between the other plants. For example, small shrub roses, lady's mantle or the evergreen creeping spindle are suitable.
