If plants suffer from a magnesium deficiency, then it is best to use epsom salt as fertilizer. Here are 3 application tips.Epsom salt can compensate for a magnesium deficiency
When the plants wake up from hibernation in the spring, you should effectively support their growth. For many types, the use of epsom salt is suitable, which can optimally compensate for a magnesium deficiency and / or sulfur deficiency.
Since Epsom salt is generally used in agriculture, you can buy it either as solid fertilizer (granular form) or as liquid fertilizer and apply it in the garden. However, when using epsom salt, you should always make sure that you avoid overdosing - because more is not always more effective!
We have now noted for you how best to carry out an Epsom salt fertilization.
Use Epsom salt as fertilizer
»Tip 1 - fertilize conifers:
Conifers clearly enjoy an annual, well-dosed dose of Epsom salt fertilizer (approx. 20 g / m2). Especially when the individual needles turn yellowish, which in turn is a sure sign of deficiency. Brown needles, on the other hand, indicate a lack of potassium. You should not compensate for this with Epsom salt, but with special pine fertilizer.
You simply need to sprinkle the Epsom salt loosely around the conifers and then water them well. But be careful: you must not wash out the Epsom salt completely.
»Tip 2 - leaf fertilization:
For effective foliar fertilization, you should use a 2 percent Epsom salt solution with which you spray the leaves on the underside. The Epsom salt can be dissolved in the water without leaving any residue.
You should never fertilize your leaves with Epsom salt in direct sunlight and not even if rain is to be expected immediately afterwards. Cloudy April days are best suited for fertilization.
»Tip 3 - lawn fertilization:
As a spring cure, you should sprinkle a small amount of granular epsom salt on the lawn after the first cut of the lawn. After you have sprinkled the Epsom salt, you have to water the lawn, or it should be fertilized on a day when rain can still be expected.
By the way: Epsom salt is already contained in many commercial lawn fertilizer mixtures.
