If you hear something about the spider flower for the first time, you may feel a little shy. But it is a very pretty flower.

The spider flower has an impressive bloom

The spider flower, which at first glance appears to be exotic, enchants every gardener with its impressive bloom, the stamens of which are reminiscent of thin spider legs. Due to its sensitivity to cold, the plant from South America can only be cultivated in our gardens for one year.

Plant spider flower

The spider flower, which grows up to 120 centimeters, loves a sheltered location in full sun and is ideal as a background plant in a herbaceous border. Whereby she always prefers soil that is as nutritious as possible.

Enrich the soil with compost beforehand, making it easier for the spider flower to grow.

You must note that the spider flower may only be brought outdoors after the ice saints, as it cannot tolerate temperatures below -5 degrees. You should also keep a planting distance of at least 30 centimeters from other perennials.

From June to October, the spider flower, which is easy to care for, unfolds its wonderful bloom, with white, red, pink and purple flowers in well-stocked garden shops.

In autumn, the spider flower forms enough seeds that you can collect and dry so that you can use them again next spring (already possible on the window sill from February).

Caring for the spider flower properly

" To water:

Since the spider flower clearly prefers nutrient-rich soils, you must also regularly provide them with irrigation water during longer dry periods.

In the field, spider flowers should also be supplied with a full liquid fertilizer every 3 weeks.

»Control pests:

Every now and then spider flowers are haunted by aphids, while a powerful water shower helps first. If this is not the case, you should control the aphids with appropriate insecticides as soon as possible, otherwise the blooming will suffer.
